through the golden filter

how to pull off all black in the summer - love the boat shoes on her.

simple summer gear - with an added platform touch.

who said thick black framed "nerd" glasses were out? if it makes you stand out, take charge and wear them.

a quintessential vancouverite returning from yoga? not quite. she could have reinforced the stereotype and worn full regalia from lululemon but she wore this fantastic coat that made me take notice. and nice touch not wearing new balance runners...

love that she took a western style bandana and used it as an oversized pocket square.

here comes the sun...

The sun had finally come out in our fair little city, and I had the unfortunate luck to forget my camera while shopping downtown. As luck would have it, it seemed as hundreds of men and women flocked out in the city dressed in their summer best. By the time I had the opportunity to snap some pictures, it seemed that everyone was sitting either in patios drinking mojitos (or the relevant drink of choice) or taking a stroll along the beach. That was until I ran into these subjects. My favourite though, is the woman who accessorized her classic styled dress with chandelier earrings, leopard pumps and bold sleveless jacket. And who said Vancouverites didn't take risks?

parallel lines

In a time when Vancouver weather is in-between seasons, this young woman gets points for rebelling against typical "hipster" vancouver fashion. Although I wish she had gone a different route with her footwear, her clothing choices are top-notch.

granville island love

what makes a black coat not boring? with sheer bravado, this woman dares to go full force with red accessories that make her stand out in the crowd.

the ruffle detailing on the leather jacket and ankle boots are spot on.

things will be great when you're downtown

this young woman was quite reluctant to have her picture taken. when i mentioned that i was doing a street fashion blog, she asked "are you sure i won't be on the bad list?" - nothing could be further from the truth.

spring into colour

even though it has been miserable this past week in vancouver, this young woman proves that you can be brazen with your colour combination and it can work. embrace spring vancouverites, even if it isn't sunny outside.

in the beginning

This is the start of a street fashion blog (oh no, another one!) that is trying to connect with a city that has the reputation of being well, boring. Toronto has the pulse of being Canada's New York; Montreal has the European influence; heck, even Calgary has the money to ride the recession and drive the fashionistas to Holt Renfrew with Cowboy hats in check. (All three cities also had a H&M before we were blessed with the flagship store that opened at Pacific Centre in 2008.) So what about Vancouver? The city has been documented as a gortex capital of Canada of sorts, and if you look out of any street corner, you are bound to see women wear Lululemon pants with Aritzia jackets. But, as a former Vancouver street fashion blog, The Commodified, has documented - it is fashionable - putting it on par with its eastern metropolis neighbors, Toronto and Montreal.
So what about this blog? Seeing as the main street fashion blog, The Commodified, is no longer updated, I saw an opportunity to pick up the reigns. This blog is designed not only to document the eclectic aesthetic of fashion in Vancouver but to also, above all, have fun with style through these photographs.
